BUCKET LIST: THE TAJ MAHAL, INDIA

Saturday, July 2, 2016

I can’t believe it’s already been a month since I saw The Taj Mahal for the first time! It was the 3rd stop on our 5 city tour through India and we stayed at the beautiful Oberoi AmraVillas, right next to the Taj! We just missed Prince William and Kate by a couple of days.  taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)-9taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)-3taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)-13taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)-11taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)-15taj__mahal_India_the_simple_sol (1 of 1)-14

10 things you need to know when visiting The Taj Mahal

#1. It is thought to be one of the most romantic symbols of love in the world. -The Mughal emperor had it built in honor of his one true love and late wife who was a Persian princess.

#2. Make sure you go for Sunrise & Sunset!

#3. For Sunrise, Get there EARLY. It opens at 6 am and you should be there by 5:45 to be one of the first ones in!

#4. If you have the budget and time to do so, I recommend staying at the Oberoi AmraVilas – this is where William & Kate stayed right after us!  You can see the Taj from every hotel window, and you can take a golf cart back and forth to the monument!

#5. It’s one of the new 7 Wonders Of The World and it took 17 years and 22,000 people to build it!

#6. Be prepared to be bombarded with photo requests, and by the nicest families ever… but there are just a few too many of them. If someone wants a photo with you (and they will), just know that once you agree, a line will form. I must have taken at least 30 photos with people and finally had to say no which always makes me feel bad because the families were really nice!

#7.  It is not easy to get to Agra, there is only one flight per day from Delhi so you have to book early.

#8. It’s Closed on Friday’s so plan accordingly

#9.  After the Taj, check out the Agra Fort before you head out of town.

#10. Most surprising to me —  hundreds of monkeys live on the grounds!
